Assistant Conductor
The Hallé Concerts Society seeks an Assistant Conductor
We are seeking an exceptional and inspirational musician to assist Hallé Music Director Sir Mark Elder CBE and visiting conductors to the Hallé, and to conduct the Hallé in public concerts. The Assistant Conductor will also act as Music Director of the Hallé Youth Orchestra, taking direct responsibility for its musical development and performances. This post is generously supported by the Musicians Benevolent Fund.
This post provides an unusual opportunity for a young conductor to advance his/her skills in a sheltered and artistically stimulating environment over a two-year period. The successful candidate will be British, or will have been resident/studying full-time in the UK for three years, and under the age of 35. S/he will have considerable conducting experience, and will be currently undertaking professional conducting engagements.
The post will require a commitment of 200 half-days per annum, for which the post holder will receive an annual package of not less than £24,000 per annum.
The audition process will be in two stages, with first stage auditions with the Hallé Youth Orchestra planned to take place in Manchester on Sunday 22 April 2012, and second stage auditions with the Hallé and interviews in Manchester on Sunday 24 June 2012. Successful applicants will be required to be available for both audition dates.
The successful candidate will succeed Andrew Gourlay from 1 September 2012, with potential opportunities for session-based work in advance of the contract start date.
Applications with CV and covering letter by Friday 16 March 2012 to Jane Bulpin, Youth Orchestra Administrator, Hallé Concerts Society, The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, M1 5HA.
