Over the past two months, local groups and institutions have helped to create everything from elaborate fire dancer costumes to enormous phoenix puppets for a Main Stage production. In all 150 people are coming together to form a new national company. The project has also seen The Royal Opera House work with The Lowry and Hallé Youth Orchestra, as well as Dance East’s Centre for Advanced Training, based in Ipswich.
Hot House is a new commission by composer Julian Grant and librettist Stephen Plaice which delves into the history of the theatre and its creative spirit. Under the artistic direction of a creative team headed by Gareth Malone (from BBC ’s ‘The Choir’ and ‘Military Wives’), the production will be staged and performed by young dancers, musicians and designers.
The show will open with a performance by Youth Music Voices – a choir of some of the UK ’s most talented young vocalists.
