Mozart Overture: The Magic Flute 7'
Beethoven Violin Concerto 43'
Sibelius Symphony No.5 30'

Rory Macdonald conductor | Nicola Benedetti violin

With its arresting opening chords, the overture Mozart composed for his opera The Magic Flute is appropriately one of his most enchanting creations. Nicola Benedetti’s playing of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto was recently described as being ‘unbelievably expansive’ with ‘luxuriously unhurried spaciousness’. At different times shadowy, dramatic and sensuous, Sibelius’s groundbreaking Fifth Symphony culminates in joyful and triumphant affirmation. Presiding over events is the highly- talented Rory Macdonald, one of a growing number of former Hallé Assistant Conductors now blazing a trail.

This programme is also performed on Thursday 23 and Sunday 26 February 2012 at The Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
