Helen Grime Virga 10'
Beethoven Symphony No.4 32'
Stravinsky Violin Concerto 22'
Bach Suite No.3 20'
Sir Mark Elder conductor | Julian Rachlin violin

Sir Mark resumes the Hallé’s Beethoven cycle with the composer’s brilliant yet underrated Fourth Symphony. In its dazzling energy and vigour, it more than measures up to its famous neighbours. The superb Lithuanian-born Julian Rachlin performs Stravinsky’s finely-crafted Violin Concerto, a seminal text of the composer’s neo-classical phase. Finally, there is a rare opportunity to hear Sir Mark conduct a work by that towering genius of the baroque, Johann Sebastian Bach. The composer’s third orchestral Suite – an exceptional celebratory exhibition – contains a majestic overture, a poignant air (now commonly known as ‘Air on the G string’) and three exhilarating dances.
Pre-concert event at 6:30PM (Free to concert ticket holders)
