Back by popular demand, you are invited to join the Hallé for another day of inspiring choral music on Saturday 9 October 2010 in the Hallé's Manchester home, The Bridgewater Hall.
The assembled massed voices will be led through a day of rehearsals by Sir Mark Elder (Parry) and Gregory Batsleer (Orff), culminating in a public concert performance together with the award-winning Hallé at 6.30pm. This event promises to raise the roof with a spine-tingling choral experience for both participants and audience alike.
'These occasions give me chance just once in a while to throw away my inhibitions and sing in a way I normally reserve for the bathroom.' 2008 participant

Repertoire The perfect opportunity to sing two immensely powerful, yet contrasting, works with a tremendous gathering of voices and the orchestral splendour of the award-winning Hallé: longest-established and yet most vibrant of the country's great orchestras.
Parry - Blest Pair of Sirens (1887) Blest Pair of Sirens is a wonderfully evocative piece of music, influential in the development of the English Choral tradition and appealing in its grandeur. This breathtaking work will be rehearsed and conducted by Sir Mark Elder.
Orff - Camina Burana, excerpts (1937) The Carmina Burana is a manuscript of some 254 poems and dramatic text from around the 13th century, written mainly by students and Goliards satirising the church. Orff took just 24 of these texts to create his masterpiece centring on fate and the wheel of fortune, and it opens with the best-loved and stunning O Fortuna, which has been famous by countless films and adverts. Keeping true to its medieval inspirations of melodic simplicity, Orff's music is rhythmic, forceful yet fun. This dramatic work will be rehearsed and conducted by Gregory Batsleer.

Sir Mark Elder - Music Director Sir Mark Elder has been the Hallé's Music Director since September 2000, during which time the orchestra's considerable achievements have been recognised in significant awards, an enhanced international profile, and popular and critical acclaim. When he joined the Hallé, Sir Mark brought in a strategy that put choral singing at the heart of the Hallé's activities, by creating the Hallé Youth Choir and the Hallé Children's Choir, and imbedding all of the Hallé ensembles into the community.
