Membership

Membership is by a short, informal audition, and is free.

All members are required to attend short, weekly rehearsals during term time at a venue in Manchester. Members receive tutoring to develop pitch, tone and sense of rhythm, and are encouraged to learn to read music, while working towards memorable performances with the Hallé and other Hallé Ensembles.

Open Rehearsal

To give children an insight into a typical Hallé Children's Choir rehearsal, we are offering applicants the opportunity to attend an open rehearsal on Wednesday 8th February 2012. Places are limited, and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. To book your place, please contact Vicki Forrester using the details below by Monday 6th February 2012. Please note that children attending the open rehearsal will not be given preferential treatment at audition stage.

How to join

Please complete and return the application form by Monday 2nd April 2012.

Auditions will be held in late April.

Applicants are required to:

  • sing a short accompanied song of their own choice that they enjoy singing, for example, a well known folk song, school song or hymn. Please note that pop songs are not appropriate. Applicants should provide the sheet music for the piano accompaniment – a pianist will be provided;
  • undertake vocal exercises and pitch and rhythm recognition tests with the piano.

Preference will be given to those not already in full time specialist music education.
