The Hallé Youth Choir usually recruits once per year, usually late in the spring term, holding auditions during the summer. However please feel free to contact us at any time during the year in case we have any vacancies.

We are looking for young people who:

  • are aged 13 to 19 years on 1st September 2012
  • feel reasonably confident at reading music
  • have a passion for singing!

Membership

Membership is free, however members are expected to contribute towards the cost of residential courses and tours where appropriate. Limited bursaries are available through an application process to help cover the costs of residential courses, tours and travel to rehearsals and concerts.

Youth Choir members are expected to commit to rehearsals on Sunday afternoons in Manchester during the autumn and spring terms from September 2012. There are no activities during the study leave period of May and June. Youth Choir members are also expected to attend a residential course and/or tour during the summer holidays of 2013.

How to join

Please complete and return the application form by Monday 2nd April 2012.

Those selected will be asked to attend an audition during April 2012.

Auditions are informal and limited to ten minutes. Applicants will be asked to prepare a set work. There will also be some vocal exercises and a brief sight-reading test.

Preference will be given to those not already in full time specialist music education.
