Pendine Park Care Homes

The Musicians in Residence project at Pendine Care Homes involves Janet Simpson, the Hallé’s piano and celeste player working alongside other Hallé colleagues with patients and carers at the home. The partnership between the Hallé and Pendine aims to improve the well-being and quality of life of all the residents involved with particular emphasis on those with dementia, and to develop a staff training programme as part of a Care Diploma. The Diploma is provisionally entitled ‘Enhancing Care and Well-Being in Tune With Music/the Arts’ and is currently being developed between the Artist-in-Residence, Hallé Musicians and Smartcare – the staff training branch of the Pendine Organisation. We hope to eventually have the Diploma accredited and rolled out across Wales and will begin the pilot study in-house later this year. Through this staff-training unit we hope to inspire and promote confidence and understanding of the value of the arts within the care sector and the wider community.
