Weber Overture: Jubel 8' Mozart Piano Concerto No.27 in B flat K595 34' Mahler Symphony No.1 in D 52'
Mark Elder conductor • Lars Vogt piano
The Hallé's 150th anniversary season opens in grand style with Weber's ceremonial Jubel Overture, and Mark Elder conducts Mahler's awe-inspiring First Symphony, completed when the composer was still in his 20s yet already in possession of his own distinctive voice. It mixes the cries of raw nature with peasant songs and dances, moves from the anguish of suffering humanity to heroic triumph, and stands as a great and intriguing doorway into Mahler's world. The outstanding young German pianist Lars Vogt - the Berlin Philharmonic's first ever pianist-in-residence - plays Mozart's final concerto, which seems to concentrate a lifetime's experience in its Larghetto theme. 'Musicality and intelligence complemented each other wonderfully.' (Münchner Merkur on Vogt) |
