Where and when are rehearsals held?
Rehearsals are held 6.45-9.15pm every Wednesday evening in Manchester, with additional rehearsals scheduled prior to each concert. Concerts are planned many months in advance and a detailed rehearsal schedule is provided at least 2 months in advance.

What is the commitment involved in being a member?
We expect an 80% minimum attendance from our members, for each concert and overall during the season. We have an option of a 'leave of absence' period of a few months if necessary for any reason, without the need to reaudition to rejoin.

How do I join?
Membership is by audition, and we hold regular auditions for prospective new members.

What would I have to do for an audition?
Auditions last 10-15 minutes, and you would be asked to sing:

  • A piece of your own choice lasting no more than 3 minutes. This should be a piece that you know well and feel confident singing, and can be either a solo piece or part of a choral work. We will provide an accompanist for you.
  • Vocal range exercises, ear and responsiveness tests
  • A short piece of sight reading

What does membership cost?
There is a small annual membership subscription, and a small deposit required for ladies' dresses. All other costs such as vocal coaching, rehearsal, concert and music costs are provided.

Do I need to be able to read music?
As we have a limited amount of rehearsal time for each project, it is necessary for all Choir members to have some understanding of reading music.

May I observe a rehearsal before I audition?
We welcome any potential new members who would like to observe a rehearsal and thereby experience the Choir before deciding whether or not to audition.
