COME AND SING WITH THE HALLÉ

In an event back by popular demand, you are invited to join the Hallé for another day of inspiring choral music on Sunday 12 October 2008 in the Hallé's Manchester home, The Bridgewater Hall.

The Hallé's Choral Director, James Burton, will lead the assembled massed voices through a day of rehearsals, culminating in a public concert performance together with the award-winning Hallé at 6.30pm. This event promises to raise the roof with a spine-tingling choral experience for both participants and audience.

Repertoire
This is a rare opportunity to sing Vaughan Williams's evocative Sea Symphony with a tremendous gathering of voices and the orchestral splendour of the award winning Hallé: longest-established and yet most vibrant of the country's great orchestras.

Vaughan Williams A Sea Symphony
From 1903-1909, Ralph Vaughan Williams worked intermittently on a series of songs for chorus and orchestra that were to become his most lengthy project to date and his first true symphony. A huge choral piece, A Sea Symphony was first performed in 1910 at the Leeds Festival on the composer's 38th birthday. The text comes from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass and this powerful and far-reaching work does justice both to the poetry and to the majesty of the sea itself.
