Throughout this season - and the beginning of the next - we are all celebrating the Hallé's 150th Anniversary.
We believe that this anniversary should be about looking forward as much as reflecting back. In this spirit, and to preserve the elements of our work not always seen by our concert-going audience, we have launched the 2058 Foundation. Our aim is to raise £1,500,000 to fund our community and education initiatives and help secure the future of the Hallé Youth Orchestra and Choirs.
Charles Hallé's vision was, from the very beginning, an inclusive one. His own words reflect his aims: 'The love of music is not confined to any class of society ... The people who pay their shilling for admission are as appreciative as their richer neighbours.' Throughout our long and distinguished history we have always understood two things: for music to thrive, we must reach out to the young, the disadvantaged and those who would not usually hear our work; and that there will never be enough public subsidy to enable us to fulfil our greatest ambitions. |
