Dukas The Sorcerer's Apprentice 22' Saint-Saëns Havanaise 11' Saint-Saëns Introduction and Rondo capriccioso 9' Ravel Tzigane 10' Ravel Mother Goose Suite 16' Debussy La Mer 23'
Louis Langrée conductor | Renaud Capuçon violin
In the atmosphere of the supernatural with which this all-French programme opens, Louis Langrée applies his own sorcery to Dukas's swirling orchestral depiction of a magic spell gone wrong. Langrée also brings French polish to the ravishing fairytale world of Ravel's suite, Mother Goose, in which nostalgia and childish delight mingle enchantingly. 'The sea has been very good to me', wrote Debussy, 'she has shown me all her moods.' And he captures them brilliantly in his three evocative symphonic sketches, as vivid as any ever-changing seascape. Renaud Capuçon demonstrates his wizardry in Saint-Saëns's Spanish dance-flavoured Havanaise and his dazzling Introduction and Rondo capriccioso.
