Rimsky-Korsakov The Snow Maiden: Suite 13' Mozart Violin Concerto No.5 in A, 'Turkish' 25' Tchaikovsky Symphony No.4 in F minor 46'
Edward Gardner conductor • Henning Kraggerud violin
Kick-start your winter with Rimsky-Korsakov's Snow Maiden, music he wrote for a wintry fairytale play. Also from the richly Romantic world of 19th-century Russia comes Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, his fearless expression of pain and struggle eventually overcome despite the apparent inevitability of Fate. Mozart's exuberant Violin Concerto in A, with its attractive Turkish-style finale, features the much admired Norwegian Henning Kraggerud in his fifth season with the orchestra. Happily returning, too, is the orchestra's former Assistant Conductor Edward Gardner, his career now flourishing at English National Opera where he is Music Director. |
