Hérold Overture: Zampa 8' Ravel Piano Concerto in G 22' Berlioz Symphonie fantastique 49' HALLÉ FIRST | BRITISH
Cristian Mandeal conductor • Kirill Gerstein piano
Looking back again to the orchestra's exciting early years, Sir Charles Hallé's friendship with Berlioz is commemorated again. The Symphonie fantastique is always spectacularly new - a fantastic autobiography in sound, full of the composer's demons and angels, his love and life, his restlessness and the peace he imagined in the countryside. Ravel's Piano Concerto in G, from almost exactly a century later, celebrates the jazz age with enormous warmth, humour and sheer brilliance. The hugely gifted young pianist Kirill Gerstein is sure to capture its spark and vitality.
