The magnificent music in our Classical Extravaganza has found its way into the hearts and minds of millions of people. Many of tonight's pieces have become as popular off the concert platform as on it, taken up by film producers, television directors and advertising executives all over the world. It's easy to understand why - this is music that soothes the soul, stirs the emotions and quickens the heartbeat. These pieces may be familiar but when they're performed by one of the world's great orchestras, they sound newly-minted, reminding us why these delightful melodies have stood the test of time. They are, quite simply, wonderful. |
