A deep sense of awe-inspiring mystery surrounds the Requiem Mozart was working on when he died. Whether or not the haunting, restless music represents Mozart’s acceptance of fragile mortality, his Requiem is a profoundly spiritual masterpiece, each performance a great occasion. Subdued mourning and sobbing sighs fill his lovely Masonic Funeral Music, while a shimmering beauty and a seductive slow movement characterize the most famous clarinet concerto ever written, played here by Hallé Principal, Lynsey Marsh.
