LET'S FACE THE MUSIC ...

Brahms  Piano Concerto No.1 in D minor
R. Strauss  Also sprach Zarathustra
R. Strauss  Salome's Dance

Massimo Zanetti  conductor
John Lill  piano *

Stephen Kovacevich has been described as '...one of those artists who changes, for those who listen to him, the course of lives'. He brings his great authority to Brahms's First Piano Concerto, a passionate work with acute sense of architecture and real sense of purpose. Massimo Zanetti, one of the most exciting conductors of his generation, returns to the Hallé with Richard Strauss's symphonic fantasy Also Sprach Zarathustra, its brilliant orchestral sunrise bursting forth like a solar explosion. Finally comes the frenzied 'Dance of the Seven Veils' from Richard Strauss's heady opera Salome - 'an intoxicating evocation of depravity, eroticism and madness'.
