Uri Caine Scenes from Childhood 20' Mahler Symphony No.5 70'
Sir Mark Elder conductor | Uri Caine piano | Hallé Youth Choir
Continuing this unparalleled view of Mahler's lifelong creative path through his symphonies in sequence, Sir Mark Elder conducts one of the composer's most personal utterances, the Fifth Symphony. Its musical canvas and emotional scope are huge, while its Adagietto has become - through its use by Visconti in Death in Venice - the most famous Mahler movement of all. From solo trumpet opening to blazing finale, by way of 'forest walk' and echoes of whirling Viennese waltz, the Fifth Symphony occupies a special place in the affections of Manchester music-lovers. The American musical polymath Uri Caine has delighted adventurers and skeptics alike with his jazz-influenced take on classical repertoire. Mahler has always inspired him: his award-winning tribute featured klezmer riffs and more. He creates a new work, 'Scenes from Childhood', for the Hallé and the Hallé Youth Choir to precede the Fifth Symphony.
