Mendelssohn A Midsummer Night’s Dream

City of London Sinfonia with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company
Richard Hickox conductor
Jonathan Best director
Cast includes Ian Hughes Puck; Trevor Cooper Bottom
City of London Sinfonia Voices
semi-staged performance with complete incidental music

Shakespeare’s best-loved comedy meets Mendelssohn’s elfin music as we welcome the City of London Sinfonia and actors from the RSC. Mendelssohn’s delightful score sets the stage for Shakespeare’s enchanting plot of lovers’ intrigues and misunderstandings, supernatural elements, and earthy rustics. The story is matched by music of miraculous deftness, delicacy and humour. Shakespeare’s words and Mendelssohn’s notes – both well known in their own right yet so rarely presented together – combine to produce an evening of unforgettable entertainment.
