Stuart Overington

Stuart is a choral director and vocal leader, known for his energetic and engaging approach to training young voices. As well as his role as Director of the Hallé Youth Training Choir, Stuart is also Director of Chetham’s School of Music Chamber Choir and Royal Northern College of Music’s Symphony Chorus and Chamber Choir. Within the Hallé he is also involved in the running of a number of corporate choirs, directs the Ancoats Community Choir, and will take up the role of Director of the Hallé Youth Choir in September 2016.

Stuart studied as both a singer and conductor at the Royal Northern College of Music where he performed in a number of Opera productions and concerts including roles in their production of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse and as the lead ‘Bobby’ in Sondheim’s Company. He has also performed in front of the RNCM Big Band and Symphony Orchestra and appeared at a number or festivals including Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and London Jazz Festival. He has also worked for a number of organisations as a freelancer including the BBC, Manchester International Festival, Royal Exchange Theatre, Opera North and The Royal Opera House.

Stuart has also had a number of songs commissioned for school singing with many being published in the Boosey & Hawkes bestselling series Singing Sherlock.
