The Hallé is delighted to announce plans to extend its Hallé St Peter’s facility in the centre of Ancoats, Manchester.

The new extension will form the second phase of a project to transform the Grade II listed former church into rehearsal, performance, education and ancillary spaces for the Hallé Orchestra, Choir and other ensembles. The new building will be named The Oglesby Centre at Hallé St Peter’s, following a major gift from The Oglesby Charitable Trust. In addition to a capital sum from the Oglesby Trust, Michael Oglesby CBE and Jean Oglesby CBE have committed to a further pledge to encourage other donations and sponsorship. The sum of £500,000 has been pledged as matched funding for donations made to the campaign.

In response to this commitment, the Hallé – in partnership with The Oglesby Charitable Trust – have launched the Oglesby Challenge, a campaign to encourage businesses to become Founding Sponsors of the new facility.

The announcement was made at an event hosted by the Hallé’s Diamond Sponsors – PZ Cussons – on Wednesday 11th May 2016.

John Summers, Chief Executive of the Hallé said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Oglesby Charitable Trust for their support so early in our fundraising for the new centre at Hallé St Peter’s. It is appropriate that this support should be recognised in the naming of the new facility “The Oglesby Centre” and we are thrilled that The Oglesby Charitable Trust have committed to the additional amount to help lever more support for the project.”

Michael Oglesby, Chairman of The Oglesby Charitable Trust said: “We are very proud of our long association with the Hallé and we enjoy meeting the young people who are helped in the early stages of their musical career by our support. The Oglesby Centre at Hallé St Peter’s will help the Hallé to further engage with young people of all abilities and we are excited to be associated with such a wonderful facility. We hope our pledge will help to secure further support for this landmark building and encourage investment in the future of the Hallé and music across Greater Manchester.”

The Oglesby Centre at Hallé St Peter’s has also already been generously supported by The Monument Trust and the Dunard Fund.
