For Mancunians, we are all familiar with the wonderful ‘worker bee’ emblem popping up all over our city, but soon we will find ourselves meeting 6 foot, 3D versions on every corner. Bee in the City is coming to Manchester!
The Hallé will have our very own bee, which will be found in Cutting Room Square in Ancoats (opposite Hallé St Peter’s). In a project supported by Hallé Principal Sponsors Siemens Plc, the Hallé Bee has been commissioned to reflect the Hallé’s place in Ancoats, and the industrial and musical roots of both the city and the Hallé itself. The bee has been designed in partnership between artist Dan Gubba, Siemens and members of the Hallé Ancoats Community Choir.
A few weeks ago, our Corporate Partnerships Manager visited the ‘Hive of Activity’, the studio where many of the bees for Bee in the City are being painted and visit our Bee in process. We met with Dan and he took us on a tour of the studio.
The Hallé bee is taking shape – watch this space for the finished work, and the reveal of the name. We hope you will come and visit her on the trail from mid-July!
