Work with the Elderly

Pendine Care Homes

The Musicians-in-Residence project at Pendine Care Homes involves Hallé musicians David Petri, Caroline Abbott and Hugh McKenna working with patients and carers at the home. The partnership between the Hallé and Pendine aims to improve the well-being and quality of life of all the residents involved with particular emphasis on those with dementia.

Hallé Education was delighted to receive the Arts and Business Wales Community Award in 2012 for its work in partnership with Pendine Park.

“I cannot praise too highly the partnership and working arrangements we enjoy with the Hallé. I know I speak for everyone involved in the project on our side when I say that the partnership has well and truly succeeded to bring purpose, enrichment and stimulation to the quality of life of so many of our residents.”

– Mario Kreft, Proprietor of Pendine Park Care Homes

We are proud to be working with Hallé Principal Sponsor, Siemens, on new methods of engaging with Dementia patients. See the video above for further information.

Dementia Friendly Organisation

The Hallé is very proud to be registered as a Dementia Friendly organisation. Dementia Friends is a programme created by the Alzheimer’s Society to increase awareness and understanding of various forms of dementia, and how this understanding can affect our actions when working with vulnerable individuals.

Thanks to Gill Drummond and the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, the orchestra and administration staff at the Hallé have all received training on the impact of dementia on patients’ and carers’ lives. The Hallé already engages with dementia patients through our work at Pendine Care Homes and the training will help to expand the programme further and ensure that all those attending Hallé concerts and events are welcome.
