Hallé/RNCM Advanced Orchestral Strings Apprenticeship
Applicants are invited to apply for the RNCM/Hallé Advanced Orchestral String Apprenticeship.
The apprenticeship will run over one academic year and is based in the vibrant cultural city of Manchester. Apprentices will receive tuition, mentoring and extensive professional experience.
A limited number of chairs will be available in September 2022 for outstanding violinists, violists, cellists and double bass players who are eligible to work in the UK from September 2022. They should have recently completed, or are in the process of completing postgraduate studies at a recognized UK, EU or International university or conservatoire.
Successful applicants must be prepared to spend a large proportion of the year in Manchester, completing a set minimum number of sessions with the Hallé. Apprentices are mentored by and work in close collaboration with the Hallé’s section leaders. Places will be awarded by audition, and after a one-day trial in Manchester.
The apprenticeship includes a guaranteed minimum of £5,000 paid work with the Hallé. As well as extensive professional orchestral experience and high profile public performances, apprentices further develop their skills with RNCM instrumental tuition, ensemble leadership opportunities, and specialist classes in communication and presentation skills, people management, chamber music, coaching and leadership, and education workshop delivery. A large number of alumni apprentices now enjoy successful careers with the Hallé and orchestras around the world.
The RNCM and the Hallé are committed to reflecting the great diversity of Greater Manchester in all areas of their work. This apprenticeship is open to all talented string players, and we guarantee an inclusive environment, where everyone can develop to their full potential. To ensure that all applicants are given equal opportunity and that our organisations are representative of all sections of society, applicants are invited to apply for the Charles Hallé Award (a bursary of up to £3,000) to support their apprenticeship.
