INSET sessions are offered to teachers attending the Hallé for Youth concerts with their class or to those who would like some inspiration for increasing music in their curriculum. These sessions explore the theme of the upcoming Hallé for Youth concerts and will help teachers to develop their own creative ideas for use in the classroom. Hallé for Youth INSET sessions run in January/February of each year.
Upcoming sessions at Hallé St Peter’s, 40 Blossom Street, Manchester, M4 6BF:
Wednesday 10 June 2020, 1:30pm – 3pm OR 4:00-5:30pm
Teachers are invited to come and explore this year’s Key Stage 1 concert theme of space and aliens and learn how to introduce and develop creative music activities to use in the classroom. The sessions are led by the Hallé’s Education Director and Schools Programme Manager. Previous musical experience is NOT required. The cost of the INSET is £22 which includes a Teachers’ Pack containing ideas for appropriate classroom work.

The Hallé’s interactive concerts for Key Stage 1 are filled with music, fun and audience participation. These 50 minute concerts have been especially created for younger audiences and offer the opportunity to experience an orchestra perform live in one of the UK’s finest concert halls. Concerts are open to school groups and are particularly suitable for ages 5-7, though all are welcome!
The concert programme blends music from the standard orchestral repertoire with specially composed music based on stories and children’s songs. During the concert pupils will be introduced to the different instruments of the orchestra and how they all work together to create a palette of different sounds, letting their imaginations soar as the orchestra creates different moods and landscapes. The concerts also feature animation and visual effects broadcast onto a large screen above the orchestra.
The 2020 Key Stage 1 concerts will feature music written by Hallé Education Director, Steve Pickett, inspired by Tony Mitton’s popular children’s book ‘Alien Tea on Planet Zum-Zee’, used by kind permission. Tickets for school concerts start from £4 per person. Stay tuned for further details and booking information.
