Ianto’s Dance by David Hext

14th July 2020

Percussionist David Hext performs his own composition Ianto’s Dance, and has provided this introduction to the video:

This piece is for vibraphone and piano was written by me for the tuned percussion exam syllabus at the London College of Music. Ianto (after whom the piece is named) was my first pet, a cat, when I was very small. I recorded the piano accompaniment separately and then played along to it on my Mallet Station which is a keyboard that I use to trigger sounds from my computer. It can be a xylophone, marimba, vibraphone or even steel pans. Great for practising at home or playing on concert stages with limited space.
