This is a very difficult time for everyone, and I felt I wanted to reach out to you all to say how much we cherish your support. For an orchestra to develop and flourish, it needs its public. The Hallé is very fortunate to have such a deep commitment from you all – in Manchester first and foremost, but in many other areas of our country as well. Never has this support been more necessary than as we progress through this crisis.
As you will see from John’s message on the website, we will not be giving any public concerts until it is safe for us to do so, but that doesn’t mean that you are forgotten – far from it! We hope that you will keep in touch with us while public concerts are suspended.
If you look on our website in the coming days and weeks, you will see lots of new activity, videos of concerts from our Youth Ensembles, Choirs and the Orchestra itself, as well as talks from me and others about what music in general, and the Hallé in particular, means to us. Download or stream our recordings or, as I do, listen to them on CD. We have a couple of newly released recordings of Sibelius and Debussy, which, I must say, sound magnificent. We are all very proud of them and hope you can enjoy them.
Once things are clearer we will be letting you know about next season’s concerts, and new events we will be planning when our lives have returned to normal. Hopefully, we can soon start to come together again to play and experience the great music that we are lucky enough to have as part of our lives.
The Orchestra, I assure you, are very enthusiastic to do this, and we all look forward to seeing you back in the Bridgewater Hall as soon as possible.
With fond good wishes,
Sir Mark Elder
