Christina McKechnie is a music educator, vocal leader, choral conductor and trombonist based in Derbyshire. She is a member of the Hallé’s Corporate Choirs conducting team and is the Director of the BASF choir for the Hallé’s Corporate Choir Competition.
As a freelance Vocal and Brass teacher accredited to Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership, Christina leads many Vocal and Brass projects in schools across Derbyshire. She is the Director of the award-winning North East Derbyshire Music Centre’s (NEDMC) Junior and Senior choirs. She also has grown and directs the Hasland Hall Community Choir.
Christina has prepared and conducted massed children’s choirs for many performances, including conducting alongside Black Dyke Mills Band in their Child’s Play project.
Christina studied Music at Royal Holloway, University of London, which she followed with a PGCE in Secondary School Music, with specialist Vocal teaching at Manchester Metropolitan University and the RNCM. Christina also has a love of Andean Music and owns over a hundred Andean instruments, with which she runs workshops and delivers a lecture each year on the Music of The Andes at Sheffield University.
