On 21st May the gallant members of Team Hallé braved a combination of unexpected warm weather, and for those running later in the day, torrential downpours, to complete the Great Manchester Run. PBs were gained by several, including Kath Russell – who improved on last year’s time by 3 minutes, and Hannah Smith was our fastest lady at an impressive 48.24. Special mention needs to go to our two under 19 runners – Sam Goodwin (51.09) and Alex Roberts (55.52). Our fastest runner overall was Michael Harper with a great time of 41.59. The Jacobs’ runners, who have been coached and spurred on throughout by Sophie Kelly, all seemed delighted to be part of the event, and between us all we are at over £3,000 in terms of our joint fundraising.
We were encouraged and spurred on by the Hallé Youth Orchestra brass ensemble, who played every wave through from 11.00am until well after 1.00pm – and by Susanna Caudwell who cheered us all on!
We now turn our attention to the next challenge – completing 1858 miles in 2016 between us! Thanks to the efforts of all on 21st May and some impressive running from members of the Orchestra and Administration team our joint mileage currently stands at 695.2 miles so we have some way to go in the next 6 months!
