The Hallé win award for Innovation in Fundraising

11th May 2016

We are honoured to have been recognised in the first ever Emcees Awards for excellence in Fundraising in the Arts and Culture sectors. At a ceremony on 5th May, we were awarded The National Arts Fundraising School Award for Innovation for our Corporate Choir Competition.

Started in 2013, the Hallé Corporate Choir Competition is now an annual event. Companies from across the North West compete to win the title of Hallé Corporate Choir of the Year, and to perform onstage at one of our Christmas concerts.

We have always had a strong choral tradition – the Hallé choir was established over 100 years ago by our founder, Sir Charles Hallé, and our family now includes three youth choirs and a community choir in addition to the Corporate Choirs.

John Summers, Chief Executive of the Hallé said:

‘We are immensely proud to be recognised for our work with the corporate choirs in this way. The corporate choirs are a wonderful way in which we can take the joy of music out into the workplace, and the choirs have allowed us to become more deeply involved in the culture of sponsor companies. The Corporate Choir Competition has also resulted in individuals in the choirs becoming more involved in other areas of the Hallé’s work, and several members of the corporate choirs have now joined the Hallé Choir.’

Kathryn O’Brien, Customer Experience Director and member of the train company, TransPennine Express’ choir said:

“As a Manchester based business, we have worked with the Hallé for a number of years through their annual Corporate Choir Competition, supporting arts and culture in the North of England. Our choir, which is made up of colleagues from right across the North, provides an ideal way of instilling confidence and communication in the workplace.

“Being part of the competition has also allowed us to get involved with the communities around us which fits perfectly with our vision and values.”

We were also nominated twice in the Corporate Sponsorship category at the Emcees, for our partnership with PZ Cussons and with TransPennine Express. These partnerships received a special mention during the evening.
