Debussy - Images for orchestra
Mussorgsky orch. Ravel - Pictures at an Exhibition
Ravel - Boléro
Sir Mark Elder
We are delighted to announce that the Hallé is able to offer you a new concert this season, which will take place in The Bridgewater Hall on Thursday 9 May at 7.30pm. This opportunity has arisen as, very sadly, the Hallé is unable to visit China in May as we had originally intended.
Conducted by Sir Mark Elder, the concert opens with Debussy’s Images. Subtitled Gigues, Ibéria and Rondes de printemps, these well-known individual postcards (from Britain, Spain and France respectively) are rarely performed together. Ravel’s genius, shown in his peerless version of Pictures at an Exhibition, takes Mussorgsky’s vivid sound-pictures far beyond the original artworks which inspired them. Ravel’s famous Boléro, a masterpiece of orchestration and dramatic tension, brought the house down when Sir Mark last performed it here two years ago, and draws this special concert to a heart-stopping conclusion.
Though we cannot guarantee it, you may be able to reserve your preferred Stalls, Circle and Choir Circle seats, which are available to buy now for only £25, £20 or £15 (including fees). Public booking opens on Monday 4 March. You have until then to ring the Box Office on 0161 907 9000, after which seats will be available either through the Box Office or by visiting www.halle.co.uk. We hope you can join us.
The Bridgewater Hall applies booking fee of £2.50 per ticket to telephone and online transactions. No fee applies to tickets bought in person or purchased as part of a fixed or flexible subscription.
