Conductor
Sir Mark Elder
Featuring:
Augustin Hadelich, Violin
The Hallé’s final performance this season features Huw Watkins’s Symphony No.2 which won a South Bank Sky Arts Award in July 2022 for the Hallé’s performance during its 2021 Digital Season. Watkins hoped it would ‘challenge and entertain’ both the Hallé’s players and its audiences and it is a real treat for the Hallé to bring this performance to Bradford. Folk songs lie at the heart of Vaughan Williams’s Norfolk Rhapsody No.1, which evokes the sense of space and sky found in the beautiful landscapes of East Anglia. Brahms composed his Violin Concerto in the idyllic scenery of Wörthersee in Austria where, he quipped, melodies were so abundant he had to take care not to tread on them. Grammy Award winner, Augustin Hadelich, received a lavish Gramophone review for his ‘richly characterised and subtly coloured account’ of this concerto.
This event is managed by Bradford St George’s Hall.
