Jennifer France, soprano
The Hallé Christmas Concert is now an essential part of our seasonal celebrations, its lively mix of classics and festive favourites given added glitter by the exciting soprano Jennifer France. Winner of the 2018 Emerging Talent Award from the Critics Circle, and praised by WhatsOnStage as “This living jewel in opera’s crown”, Jennifer has a voice to tingle spines and melt hearts, which we’ll be hearing in arias by Mozart and Puccini, and in the soaring spectacular of Johan Strauss’s Voices of Spring.
Amongst the orchestral treats on offer are Engelbert Humperdinck’s Overture to Hansel and Gretel and Prokofiev’s tale of the Russian Officer that never was, Lieutenant Kijé. Corks will pop in Strauss’s Champagne Polka whilst the Hallé’s trumpets will blow the snow away on a Bugler’s Holiday from Leroy Anderson. With rich sounds from Erich Korngold, some tender movie tunes from Craig Armstrong’s Love Actually, this is an evening to really light the candles on your Christmas.
