Hallé Youth Choir
The Hallé Youth Choir was established in 2003 and is recognised as one of the leading mixed-voice youth choirs in the country. Membership is for talented young singers across the North West region aged 13-19 years.
Since its creation the Youth Choir has covered a wide range of diverse repertoire. Highlights from previous seasons include featuring on the Hallé’s Gramophone award-winning recording of Elgar’s The Apostles with the Hallé, and performances of Vaughan Williams’ Sancta Civitas and Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius at the BBC Proms 2015. The Choir has taken part in several recording projects for the Hallé’s own CD label including most recently Colin Matthews’ Crossing the Alps. The Youth Choir also sang on Manchester band, Elbow’s album ‘Build a rocket boys’ in autumn 2010 and performed with the band on Comic Relief and Later…with Jools Holland in 2011. The Youth Choir rehearses weekly during term-time on Sunday afternoons.
The Hallé Concerts Society is very grateful to Help Musicians UK, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, the Oglesby Charitable Trust, The Radcliffe Trust and many individual benefactors for their continued support of the Youth Choir.
Hallé Youth Choir membership is for talented young singers aged 13 to 19 years who feel confident at reading music and love the excitement of contributing to a choir.
Members are expected to commit to rehearsals on Sunday afternoons in Manchester during the autumn and spring terms from September 2016. There are no activities during the study leave period of May and June. Youth Choir members are also expected to attend a residential course and/or tour during the summer holidays of 2017.
Membership is free, however all members will be requested to make a voluntary donation to the Hallé as a contribution towards the core costs of maintaining the choir. Members are also expected to contribute towards the cost of residential courses and tours where appropriate.
Limited bursaries are available through an application process to help cover the costs of residential courses, tours and travel to rehearsals and concerts. The Hallé is grateful to the Oglesby Charitable Trust for the bursary fund.
We have now finished recruiting for the 2016-17 season. Details will be posted here of how to join for 2017-18 in early 2017.
