Recognised as one of the country’s leading mixed-voice youth choirs, the Hallé Youth Choir was established in 2003 for talented young singers, aged 13-19 years, from across the North West and beyond.

The choir performs a wide range of diverse repertoire together with the Hallé, other ensembles and independently. Each summer, members enjoy a residential course or tour with visits recently to Belgium, Barcelona, London and Cambridge.

In January the Youth Choir featured in Game On!, the Hallé’s first concert dedicated to music from the world of video games. In June recent alumni re-joined the Youth Choir for Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius with Sir Mark Elder.

Highlights of the 2023-24 season include performing in the annual Hallé Carol Concerts and Youth Ensembles Celebration, as well as solo appearances in the As Seen On TV  Pops Concert in November and performing Bruckner’s Os Justi  in February. In June, the Hallé Youth Choir will perform alongside the Hallé Orchestra, Hallé Choir and Hallé Children’s Choir for Sir Mark Elder’s final concert in Manchester as Music Director of the Hallé.

The Youth Choir was honoured to sing at the National Civic Memorial Service for the first anniversary of the Manchester Arena attack. It has performed live with Elbow and Snow Patrol, and featured on several of the Hallé’s own label recordings, Elbow’s album build a rocket boys! and on Mercury Prize-nominated artist C Duncan’s album Health.
